This website
The page is a single HTML file. Fonts and images are embedded; nothing is loaded
from third-party servers. No cookies are set and no analytics or tracking
services are used. A cookie banner is therefore not required.
If you switch the appearance in the top right to light or dark by hand, your
browser remembers that choice locally (localStorage). The entry contains nothing
but “light” or “dark”, never leaves your device, and is removed again by switching back to
automatic. Without that setting nothing is stored at all.
Delivery via Cloudflare
The page is delivered through the Cloudflare network (Cloudflare, Inc.,
101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). Every request reaches a Cloudflare server
first; encryption terminates there and is re-established towards the origin server. In doing so
Cloudflare processes the data required for the connection — in particular IP address, time,
requested address and details about browser and operating system — and keeps them in its own
logs. The purpose is the secure and resilient delivery of the page and the mitigation of
attacks; the legal basis is legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The extent and duration
of that logging are outside our control; Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs the
details.
On this page Cloudflare sets no cookies and injects no analytics or
measurement script. The only thing passed on is an instruction to the browser to report
network errors to Cloudflare (Network Error Logging). Successful requests are not
covered by it — a report is only generated when a connection fails.
Transfer to the USA
Cloudflare is a US company and operates servers in many countries. Requests to
this page may therefore be processed outside the European Union as well. According to its own
statements, Cloudflare bases such transfers on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and on standard
contractual clauses.
Origin server and logs
Behind Cloudflare the page runs on a self-operated server in Germany.
Access logging there is switched off: neither IP addresses nor requested pages, times or
browser identifiers are stored. That server only ever sees Cloudflare's addresses, not those of
visitors. Only technical faults may end up in an error log; those entries are not evaluated and
are deleted regularly.
External links
Following a link to GitHub, PayPal, OpenStreetMap or the German Weather Service
transmits your IP address to that provider, whose own privacy terms apply from then on. A
contribution via PayPal is voluntary; payment data is processed solely by PayPal.
The BoatSpeedy app
The app processes location, trip and battery data on the device only.
There is no user account, no registration, no cloud synchronisation and no analytics. Trips and
settings stay stored locally and can be deleted inside the app; GPX files leave the device only
when you actively share them.
The app only connects to the internet in these cases, where transmitting the IP
address is unavoidable:
-
Map tiles from the OpenStreetMap servers (only while a map is open)
-
Rain radar, lightning data and weather warnings from the German Weather
Service and via Bright Sky — your approximate position is transmitted to determine
the relevant warning region
-
Querying the release list on GitHub for the update check
The app's permissions serve these functions only: location for measuring speed,
Bluetooth for the connection to the battery's BMS, notifications for trip, anchor, charging and
weather alerts. No background location permission is requested.
Retention
No records accumulate on the origin server that would need deleting: requests are
not logged, there are no accounts, no newsletters, no forms. Only technical error messages are
held briefly and deleted regularly. How long Cloudflare keeps its connection logs is Cloudflare's
decision and outside our control.
Disclosure to third parties
Beyond the delivery through Cloudflare described above, no data is passed to third
parties. There is no marketing, no advertising and no disclosure for outside purposes. Following
one of the external links (GitHub, PayPal, OpenStreetMap) takes you off this page, where that
provider's terms apply.
No obligation to provide data, no automated decisions
The page can be used in full without providing any data — there is nothing to
enter. No automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR
takes place.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing,
data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR), as well as the right to lodge a complaint
with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is that of the federal
state in which the controller is based.
