Canoe route planner
A canoe route planner that goes around the weir
BoatSpeedy plans canoe trips on rivers and canals, offline too. The route uses the
portages from OpenStreetMap and tells you how far you carry.
-
Portage, not a dead end. A weir does not block the route. It takes mapped portage paths, otherwise it goes from landing to landing. Dashed green, with the distance.
-
Every weir counts. The route tells you how many weirs you portage. It never leads through a hydro plant.
-
River before mill race. Power plant canals are a last resort. Mill races and leats stay closed unless OSM explicitly opens them.
-
Rules for canoes. A bare
boat=no is a hint for canoes, not a ban. On the upper Saale it covers 44 km and is meant for engines. Such stretches are drawn in red.
-
Put-ins, egress points and slipways from zoom 13, tappable.
-
Flow direction on the map, and how much of the trip runs up- and downstream.
-
Offline and portable. Waterways as tiles on the phone, routes up to 600 km without a connection. Save with a name, share as GPX, follow later.
As good as OpenStreetMap
If a portage is missing from OpenStreetMap, the route does not know it. Map it and every
paddler benefits, in the app too after the next tile update.
